Trucking can be a wonderful and refreshing job. There’s always this feeling of excitement when hitting the road again and beginning a journey. This feeling is even greater if you’re going somewhere you’ve never been before. Being able to see new environments, and cover tracks your wheels have previously never run through is such a fulfilling part of the job. Of course, you’ve got to really hope you’re taking a scenic route or else hours of staring at lame 4 lanes can really drive someone insane. Today we’re going to be talking about some of the best scenic routes, appreciated by truckers.
The Florida Keys
This drive is gorgeous. Of course, not everyone is going to get the opportunity to truck in this area, but if you can score a load driving down key west; you’re in for a treat. Now there is a downside. Sometimes, the traffic can be absolutely nutty. This is one of the few places where the views are actually truly worth dealing with some crazy traffic.
The Canadian Rockies
Definitely make this drive in the summertime. Although the area is just as beautiful in the winter, the roads can be stressful and overwhelming. Hit the Trans-Canada Highway and make your way through Banff and Lake Louise, hopefully scoring a trip all the way through Kelowna. This is simply one of the greatest and most scenic routes in all of North America and you wouldn’t want to miss it for the world.
The Grand Canyon
Well, you can’t technically ‘drive’ through the Grand Canyon, but you can get pretty darn close. If you’re in Arizona and you have the opportunity to take a little time away from the wheel, The Grand Canyon is a no-brainer. The beauty is unmatched, and the famous sky-walk is a great way to get your blood pumping during a long trip.
Arizona, Utah, Nevada
Staying in the same neighborhood as our previous destination, the deserts can seem like an odd choice. Surprisingly, the scenery in these parts is something you just can’t get anywhere else. Sunsets in the desert are something every trucker needs to experience because there is just no other sunset like it. Typically desolation can be boring. That isn’t exactly true for these parts though. Cactuses, white sand, mesas, vibrant red sand, the biggest sky you will ever see. It’s definitely very different to most scenic routes, but that’s just incomparable. The desert is a wonder.
Newfoundland
Back in Canada. This one is tough because there isn’t much trucking that goes around these parts, but if you can score a load in that direction; you wouldn’t want to miss that drive for the world. You’ve got to take a ferry across to Newfoundland (locals call it ‘The Rock’) and it can be a pretty boring ferry ride unless you REALLY love boats, but that ferry ride is more than worth it for the amazing scenery that is the island of Newfoundland. Beautiful landscapes, wicked green forests, refreshing views of the ocean, and awesome geological formations. Newfoundland is definitely one for the books.
That wraps up our list of the top 5 scenic routes for truckers. There are plenty more places to truck out there in this beautiful continent, some I can’t speak on because I’ve never done them myself, but if you ever get the opportunity to take any of these drives, do not pass up on that. Trucking is an awesome career that allows you to see so much of the world and actually get paid for it! So why not see as much as possible and enjoy every minute of it. Please pass this blog along to one of your mother trucking friends!
